MS Office validated but still cannot download templates RRS feed

  • Question

  • I purchased from Costco Office Professional 2007 Upgrade.  I installed and registered the upgrade on an HP laptop computer that had Microsoft Works 9.0 pre-installed - this qualified me for the upgrade.  When I go to download templates for MS Word, I am prompted to validate my version of MS Office.  I successfully complete the validation process at the MS Office Genuine Advantage website.  However, when I hit continue to continue with the template download I get a message indicating "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting.  The following software installed on the computer is not genuine:"  The software identified in the box is Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007.

There was a pre-installed offer to purchase Office Home and Student 2007 on my laptop but I did not act on that offer.  Another thing I have noticed (perhaps related) is that a blank Word document in MS Word 2007 specifies "Document1 - Microsoft Word non-commercial use".  I don't believe that is correct since I upgraded to Office Professional 2007.

Any ideas on how I can correct these deficiencies?

  • MDanaM,

It sounds like you may have a trial version of Office Home and Student 2007 pre-installed on the machine that needs to be removed.

For instructions on removing trial versions please visit this webiste:

"How to uninstall the 2007 Office system if you cannot uninstall it by using
the "Add or Remove Programs" feature"

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218

and revalidate here at: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en and see if the validation for
downloading and installing the template works.

    Otherwise,

We request all users initially run the Genuine Diagnostics tool to try and identify the problem you may be experiencing.

Please download and run the utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012, then click the Windows tab, Copy to Clipboard, then paste the report into a New Post on this Forum.  This would assist us immensely so we may analyze possible causes for a failed validation.  Next we will begin formulating a resolution for what may be causing the problem.

    I hope this has helped,

  • Thanks Lori!  I was afraid that the uninstall would affect other programs (hey I'm a novice) but your solution worked.
