Add a spam filter for Call Girl and Esort RRS feed

  • Question

  • My forum get spammed fairly frequently for Escorts in India. Can you add a spam filter for posts that contain the words Call Girl or Escort. There's absolutely no reason for those words to be in any of the forum posts.

  • I agree!  I don't understand why this one certain type of spam seems to keep getting through.  It's as if there's no filter at all!  Surely the brilliant folks at Microsoft can come up with a way to end this particular source of spam once and for all.

  • Now they are just using misspellings. Hard to catch them when the writer of the post is a person.

  • Spam posts with predictable spellings are still getting through though.  These should be easy to catch.  I'm strongly disappointed that this one specific type of spam is not being dealt with.

  • Maybe the filter could catch (new) users who post umpteen "questions" in only an hour?

In the VB General (or whatever it's called today) forum, the *sc*rts in *nd** posts seem to happen most on Sunday afternoons (UK time).

  • We are actively working on a better solution for filtering out abusive content. I am personally working on this and appreciate your patience until we can get this activated for production.

  • Richard,

i would vote more than once if this would be allowed. I have complaint about this also here in this forum. The spammers are always flooding the C# forum to the max.

If you have got questions about this, just ask.

    In a perfect world,
users would never enter data in the wrong form,
files they choose to open would always exist
and code would never have bugs.

  • The Hotmail/Outlook.com spam filter mostly does the job fine. Well, I think the filter could be implemented here and threads caught by that filter could be blocked from view, and if it's safe, a moderator could just mark it as safe.

Also, the spam filter should be activated only for new accounts for 30 days, so if some new user does not post any spam during that time (but atleast one valid question/post), it's out of spam filter.

  • Just wanted to follow up on this thread. We have rolled out the new spam filter I was referring to earlier. While we have noticed a decrease in the amount of SPAM that is being generated we are not assuming it will catch everything. So if you could help us by flagging posts as Abusive -> Spam when you see them, this will help us to more quickly respond and update our rules to block the users.

  • Well, it obviously hasn't worked.

Perhaps you could restrict or normalize the characters in a post title to ASCII (or whatever characters the spam filters understand), at least for English-language forums?
