Career in software development RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am interested in pursuing a career in software development and was recommended Small Basic and Visual Basic as good starting points as these can ease you in to the world of developing.  I am half way through the Small Basic course on this site and got thinking, are there any exams you can sit or formal qualifications or is it a case of then finding a test centre of some sort in my local area?

The plan is to eventually learn other languages but I'm not too sure what to look at?  I suppose at the moment I'm asking for advice or guidance.  I am interested in app development for mobile phones and also computer security.  Any help would be much appreciated, whether it's someone in a similar position to me, a link to a site or a developer, thank you very much.

Microsoft does offer some certification exams on the subject of software development. However, the topic of the programming language is de-emphasized in comparison with the knowledge required for desigining the applications and user interfaces, and interacting with all the APIs and libraries in the development environment. Compared to this, the programming language is relatively insignificant. The latest generations of exams currently cover only javascript and C#; there aren't (yet) any exams for Visual Basic. You can find information about availabe certifications, with links into the exams, here:
