Windows 7 suddenly not genuine any longer RRS feed

  • Question

  • Installed win 7 from an update DVD. Was supposed to be based on a Vista retail install, but since I installed win7 from the DVD from scratch, rather than running this install within Vista, it did not discover my install of vista on my computer. Since the Win7 update install did not ask for the original DVD, it installed as "non-genuine" and I could not add this info later. With the phone help from MS, I got info to get Win7/genuine check to accept my licences.

Now, I got the message that some driver was updated and my Win7 install is not longer considered genuine.

I hope that the answer is not a full reinstall of Win7, since I have done some significant installs since my original Win7 install.

    1) You neglected to input the Key during installation – so the system input the Default Key
    2) You can’t activate a Default Key
