After Months Windows 7 Ultimate Genuine Does Not Pass Validation RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I've used Windows for months on a used computer I purchased used.  It's failing validation over the past month or so.  Can you please let me know if this is a Windows bug that can be fixed or if the Windows install I have is the issue.  Diagnostics are below.

    Thanks.

Your Key is from a not-for-resale MSDN account. You need to claim an immediate refund from the vendor - do NOT accept the offer of a new key.(all they are trying to do is to get past the 45-day claims window. or avoid you sending the evidence of their crimes to the authorities)

Please read the following stickies.... a lot of it isn't directly relevant to you, since you bought it pre-installed, but it will help in advising what to do next.

The pirates have got VERY good at this over the past few years, as the price of equipment for manufacturing the packages drops, and as factories open in less well-policed countries.

For what version and edition of Windows is the computer licensed, according to the COA sticker on the case?

  • n2ndc,

I am sorry you were victimized.  I was too.  I'm with Noel as to advice for you.

Half or more of eBay sales of MS software is counterfeit.  Don't buy this particular kind of item anywhere but from the Microsoft Store, Amazon (NOT a partner), NewEgg, Major Retailer, etc.  Don't buy from any deep discounter on the web.  It just won't work.  Scan this forum and see how many victims there are on this forum alone in the last few days.

    Take a look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzqNNiOM0cs

Do report this to Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/howtotell/reports/report.aspx

The seller is your only recourse for a refund and DO take advantage of the deal offered you by MS.

  • Hi Noel,

Thanks for your reply.  A Craiglist buy.  Is this a vendor resell?  The CL seller phone number is not working.  I bought this in Jully.  Is the "vendor" the only recourse?

I didn't think of it before and just looked for the COA at the bottom of the laptop.  It's been torn off.

Also, it looks like Ebay is not a good source for buying MS software?  No fun putting good money on top of something paid for.  I guess you'll recommend the MS deal on the validation page?

    Best,
    N
