Connecting Hard Drives - Help RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Guys.

I built my own server a couple of years ago and was running win-xp on it, with xp installed on a 40:gb hard drive.

On top of that i have 4 other hard drives connected using a raid card, but i am informed that i should not use a raid card when using WHS so can someone please tell me how am i supposed to connect the additional hard drives if i can't use my raid card.?

    Thankyou for any advice.

  • Hi Will,
several RAID controllers, although allowing RAID modes, allow also access to unconfigured disk in a more conventional way.
The main marketing intention of Windows Home Server is anyway to be sold on hardware, which fits all the requirements, so you are not "supposed" to do anything on own hardware. As your own system builder it's your own choice to create your WHS on which platform ever you want, but some configurations are not supported or will not even run. Sometimes trouble comes up later, i.e. if you have to perform a server reinstall.

    Best greetings from Germany
