Orb 2.0 and Whiist Add-in

Question
-
I'm having a bit of fun using Orb's media streaming functionality. Definitely superior to Windows Media Services from what I can see. (However, I am having an issue with the amount of memory that it consumes. The process reached 580MB last night.)
So far, I've built a webpage in Whiist and added an Orb playlist using their HTML generator.

Has anyone built a more sophisticated page (possibly using AJAX and the Orb 2.0 API) for shaing their videos and photos using Orb? I'd love to see a better browsing experience for looking at large amounts of videos and photos.
Note: I'm not a developer, but I can usually locate the things I need to move around by looking at the HTML in Notepad. Btw, are there any WYSIWYG editors available for working with Orb 2.0?
Keen to hear your feedback!

Good, glad to see this helped. (be sure to mark my respons as "answered")
We all have the same error with video streaming...LOL. I think one or two actually got it to work. I never could.
Check the thread for WEbguide in the Developers section of this forum. The author of Webguide has not added much to it in a while. Join the WEbguide forum and maybe post there too for answers.
Yes, it is the best overall set up for pics and music. Plus, you can give access rights to specific people and you have to log in. Nice and secure too.
I may give it another whirl here on my OEM machine.....

FullyLoadedbus,
Mine is not a solution but rather a comment.....or two.
I tried orb too and liked it for the most part. I liked the format, ease of use and mobile phone access. But I was concerned that I had to log in with an "off shore" account. Meaning, I was concerned that someone could hack my account on Orbs site and get into my WHS. I noticed that Orb would scan my entire WHS even though I set Orb to only make certain files available for use, there was still access to ROOT of WHS if you logged into my main account in Orb (not guest accounts). Also, the fact that a third party had rights to see my stuff and then spam my home page with advertising. That concerned me about Orb and I canceled my account, but I liked its functionality and ease.
I'd like to see a better photo and video page setup I can run from WHS and log into WHS.....not some other company's web page. I have used the photo add-in with Whiist and it's nice. I've used Coffe Cup's flash photo album too and made pages on WHS.
The only things I've seen that run soley on WHS and have a decent photo and video set up is TVersity (clunky) and Web Guide (slick, but tricky setup). Web Guide was slickest, but my slower WHS OEM machine will not stream video well. But the photo presentation was way cool.
I'd like to see something better and maybe combine the finer points of all three....Saturday, October 20, 2007 10:15 PM -
Really helpful response! Thank you!!!
I have loaded the WebGuide beta for WHS from http://www.asciiexpress.com/webguide. Apparently the author has joined Microsoft and is developing for the WHS team now. (Woohoo!!!)
I am really happy with the performance and interface of WebGuide. It can only get better from here.
However, setup is a bit tricky as noted above. Whenever I try to stream video, I get the following error on my Windows Media Player clients:
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the Player encountered a network error. The server might not be available. Verify that you are connected to the network and that your proxy settings are correct.
I have both Cyberlink PowerDVD and the AC3Filter loaded, so the WHS should be able to encode the audio / video stream. All the ports are published and working correctly on my router.
Photos and Music both work brilliantly.
We'll see if I can sort out the remaining issues. I'm keen to know if the streaming works as well as it did in Orb 2.0. Certainly, the user interface of WebGuide is better.

Take a look at JW FLV PLAYER:
The JW FLV Player (built with Adobe's Flash) can be used standalone, without the need for the Flash authoring tool. The player allows you to show your videos more controlled and to a broader audience than with Quicktime, Windows Media or Real Media. It supports playback of a single Flash video file, RTMP streams or RSS, XSPF and ATOM playlists (with advertisement possibilities), a wide range of flashvars (settings) for tweaking both behavior and appearance and an extensive, documented javascript/actionscript API.
Can also play mp3's.......
