Missing COA, Blocked VLK, Where to go from here...

Question
-
I recently was hired as the new Network Admin , and only recently have I begun my personal inspection of our computers. After I was done, 13 machines were confirmed to have a broken VLK, so I am including the diagnostic report from one of the consoles. I have not run this on all 13 to see if they are all the same key, but I think so. I need to know what the staus of the VLK is, how many consoles it was designated for, etc. so that I can properly fix this mess.
Diagnostic Report (1.7.0039.0):

Shin'ai,
Appears you will have a forthcoming challenge awaiting you. First do you have any chronological information from the previous network administrator? This would be a great reference point. Can you or the company contact them to answer questions which you may need addressing? There are a couple things I can share in order to point you in the right direction for rectifing the present situation.
First, the diagnostic results indicate Windows XP Pro has a blocked Volume Licensing Key (VLK). Shin'ai actually the key used on this particular system was not assigned by Microsoft. The key was most likely generated by a non-sanctioned key generator. As you know product keys are only allowed to be used on one computer unless otherwise specified in the end user licensing agreement (EULA). Please logon to the eOpen site https://eopen.microsoft.com/EN/default.aspp and confirm what your assigned VLK is for Windows XP Pro and Office should you have a VLK.
Next are all your machines the same i.e. EMACHINES 5010? Please visit the following link:
http://www.emachines.com/support/product_support.html?cat=Desktops&subcat=T-Series&model=T5010 . Here you can review how the machines come pre-configured unless the company changed Operating systems, hardware or other options. This particular machine came installed with XP Home. Also review each system's COA.Please validate each computer by visiting http://www.microsoft.com/validate and click on "Validate Windows" in the upper right hand corner of the window. Should you have problmes please run the MGA on each system. This will tell you the particulars such as Blocked VLK and if Office is valid or not.
Software Asset Management (SAM) is a tool systems administrators can use keep track of assests. Please take time and review the software and see if SAM can save time and track your companies valuable software. Here is where you may review SAM: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/sam/default.mspx
Take care and if you need further assistance please re-post back in the forum.

Oy, it's worse than I thought then.
1st, all of the machines are more or less different, so I will have to run the MGA on it to see how many of the reports have the same key. As for contacting the previous person, I do not have that option, as he left on very bad terms. I've already run the Validation on the machines, and that's where I have the 13 number from. It would not surprise me if the 13 failed computers are running bad/generated keys.

Shin'ai,
Thank you for the feedback. Please review the following URL: http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/resources/vol/default.mspx This site has valuable information about Volume Licensing Keys (VLKs) and may provide you with more direction. First verify if the company has any current issed VLKs by logging on the the eOpen site I previously posted. Although out of the scope of the WGA forum it may benefit you to verify if Office is genuine or non-genuine. This will prevent future work on your part as well as keeping proper adminsitration for all your company's licensing. Another site to visit: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/ . Do you have any original software whatsoever for the 13 systems? Please review all your systems for a COA. A temporary solution would be contact technicial support for all the system manufacturers and request reinstallation software media. This will provide you with licensed software to install until the VLK issue can be worked. This may be counterproductive and cause a lot of work but a temporary solution. Also please review the SAM software located @ http://www.microsoft.com/genuine This can provide a method of organization.
Take care and I wish you the best luck. Please post again if we may be of further assistance.
