Question: will WHS ever support running a personal webserver.

Question

One thing that really interested me was the hinted at tie ins with a live account. Will WHS have the ability to host a website that can be accessed through live. (e.g. username.live.com)? Also, will this be a feature that can be configured from the connect client if it exists?Wednesday, February 21, 2007 4:07 AM

WHS has IIS (Internet Information Services) which is a web server. You can try to add files and create your own website that is served from WHS but as far as I understand it isnt supported. There are many bug reports / suggestions that are created on Connect to address this. You may want to login and vote and validate some of those suggestions.

Please point me to one of these threads. I went through the suggestions and saw nothing specific to my request. Right now I am currently disappointed with WHS it seems to be just a SAMBA server with some unRaid like file system overlaying it.Wednesday, February 21, 2007 5:33 AM

It has been said somewhere that live will be a given. IE yourWHS.live.com TZO has a press release saying they are helping :)
As said WHS has IIS as in http://server all you have to do is anything from simple to complex. Make a folder under c:\inetpub\wwwroot called test and place test.html in there
http://server/test/test.html works and will work from afar as well

For what it's worth I'm running Citrix's Web Interface 4.5 on my WHS with no issues.Thursday, February 22, 2007 2:42 AM
