Website Vanished from Live Search Index RRS feed

  • Question

  •

My website was ranking fairly well in Live Search up until about a week ago after I updated the content. Now, it has completely vanished from the index, although it is ranking well in the other major search engines. I am unable to verify the site to determine the problem because the site is supported by another company, which only allows me limited access. Could someone from MSN please tell me what caused the site to be blocked (if that is the case) and how I can fix it? This is the website: www.aprilechiropractic.com. Thank you for your help.

    JT,

Did you make any architectural changes or was it just content?

  • I should clarify that this site ranked better in Live Search before I optimized its content for the major search engines. Its rankings have since increased in both Google and Yahoo!, but completely disappeared from MSN. This is illogical. I have read every MSN blog and article related to indexing, but nothing explains this phenonomenon. Why would this site rank better in MSN with less (and worse) content???

  • These were the steps I took, and I received a response within 48 hrs. MSN confirmed my site was not blocked, which was my primary concern, however was unable to provide an explanation as to why the site disappeared from the index entirely.

If you suspect that your website was incorrectly identified as spam, please do the following:

    1. Open the Live Search Site Owner support form.
    2. In the boxes provided, type your name and e-mail address.
    3. In the What type of problem do you have? list, select Other.
    4. In the box provided, describe the issue, including the following information:
      • The search words that you used to produce the search results that contain the web spam
      • The URL of the web spam
      • Whether the content of the site matched the result description
    5. Complete the form, and then click Submit.

    Hi,

Like the other search engines, we change our algorithm from time to time so it is expected that there will be some variation in results. With only one backlink, your site is ranking extremely low. If you have a 3rd party developer/hosting company you are paying to maintain your site, I suggest talking to them about SEO packages.

  • Brett,

Thank you for your timely response. I am extremely impressed with the attention my issue has received from MSN, especially considering your workload.

I've been doing SEO for a little while now, so I understand the importance of backlinks. However, www.aprilechiropractic.com was ranking relatively well as of July 21, 2008 when I first performed a keyword analysis using Live Search. At that time it had zero backlinks, but nevertheless was indexed and ranking relatively well for certain keywords. 9 days later it is not even in the index. So, I question whether backlinks are the issue because if they were, the site would not have been ranking as well as it was to begin with. Also, I just ran a link analysis, and aprilechiropractic.com currently has 6 backlinks.

In sum, this site was ranking better in Live Search before its content was optimized and when it had 0 backlinks. Also, I received an email about a day ago from MSN confirming that the site was not blocked, so this is not the problem.

Given this information, I would really appreciate some other possible explanations as to why this might have happened. Thank you for your time.

same thing happened to my website. www.advancenow.com. It was doing quite well with search terms instant loan and instant payday loan, however 2 days ago it dropped completely off the listing. It is still showing a very old spidering of my index.html page from a month ago, but the last spider was actually on the 23rd. The page that it is showing didn't even exist anymore, but I changed my index page back to index.html so at least that one listing link would work. Not sure what happened but it dropped all of my indexed pages except that one which didn't even exist anymore Smile curious of what happened as well.

Brett, thanks for the response.  I submitted a request as the post above mentioned and within 48 hrs it has been fixed.  Not completely though.  We were ranked in the #1 position for: Cheap Auto Insurance and #2 for Cheap Insurance, now I still can't find us.  However, we have good placement for: cheapest auto insurance and cheap home insurance.  It seems as though something odd happed within the entire establishment around the same time.  I base that on some of the other user posts.

  • Brett,

No architectural changes were made to the site, only changes to the content.
