Windows Update will not install .NET or Silverlight updates RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been trying to install updates to .NET framework and to Silverlight for quite a while now with not much success. Today I finally got 2 updates to install for MS Office but it happened in a really strange way. When I tried to run Windows Update with all 4 of the above items checked I received message that 4 installs failed (as usual), but when I started to shut down my computer I had to wait for 2 of 4 updates to install. When I signed back on and checked WU the 2 Office updates had installed but not the .Net or the Silverlight. Other updates have installed also, just not .Net or Silverlight.  I have run every scan I know of and found a few minor things like tracking cookies, etc. but that is all. I tried to run a scan with MS OneCare but the scan errored out...twice.  I have AVG Anti-virus free running all the time. I have also had problems installing some other things but I can't even remember now what they were. Anyone have any suggestions for what to do next?
