This thread has been going on since 2008 with no recent postings, but I'm still experiencing the problem. I'm running a recently new laptop with Windows 8 for personal and small business uses. I have been backing up to an external Seagate
hard drive. That external drive has backups from an earlier laptop that was running XP. I have files saved from that now defunct computer on the Seagate, so reformatting it is out of the question. I don't know what version of SyncToy I had
used to backup the older machine. However, I've been trying to now backup with SyncToy 2.1, Ver 2.1.0.0, built 10/19/2009. I get the following message:
---------------------------
SyncToy

Exception during run: The FileSyncProvider received an unexpected error while writing a change. Creating new file

I click the "OK". SyncToy runs briefly. Then I get the message, "SyncToy was stopped before it completed". I am not a techy and have limited computer skills. Does anyone have advice on what I should do to effectively
use ST? Thanks.
