Folders won't delete RRS feed

  • Question

  • I unzipped something I got over the net and it created a folder on my hard drive. I know it is not a virus as I checked. However, when I try to delete the folder, it says "Access Denied". The same thing happens when I try to go into the folder.

Can somebody please tell me how to force delete the folder? Maybe a particular program to use?

  • In most cases, you will be able to delete the folder after a system restart.. If you are unable to delete the file even after system restart, try to delete the folder from command prompt...

  • if still you fail to delete it, delete it from safe mode. or if you have a dual OS, try deleting from the other OS.

  • this might work.
right click on the folder & choose properties.
then click on sharing or permissions tab.
there you will see a checkbox.
clear it & then follow on

  • I developed one such programme. If you wish, you can use that. Go to : inferno.sourceforge.net and download the latest file from there.

I expect you will find it useful.

  • Well the reason you are not able to delete a particular folder can be due to its system property, i.e. it might have meen marked as a system folder...

So here what you can try...
go through comand prompt to the folder location

    give this cmd

    attrib -s -h foldername

This will remove the system property of the folder...
Now you will have the access to the folder, even deleting the folder will be allowed...

  • yes man that attrib works most of the times in fat32 , but sometimes it even cant help, youhave to mess with the security settings if you have ntfs.

And thanks for the program man, i will surely give it a try.

  • Oh , I think its better to check the registry setting of your system. Some string might be corrupted there.

Anyways which kind of file is that..........

  • I had downloaded some flash games from the net. And included with them came free viruses infected in the .exe Stick out tongue
I scanned those and disinfected the files. But now there are 3 .exe files remaining that wont get deleted. DO you know where to check in the registry ?

The names of those .exe are the name of the game, so it has no connection with the virus name, the virus had just infected the file. ALso i have checked up my startup entries, and scanned and saw all the settings from hijackthis. Everything is normal, and no extra proggy starting in startup. Still i dont know why i keep getting that. I am lazy to boot into my other OS and delete it from there. Infact i hardly shutdown my pc .hhee
