WHS admin password recovery without DVD reinstall

Question

Hi guys and girls. My first post in here. Have seen many helpfull answers but coudnt find one to my Q.
Here it goes.
I got an assigment to configure a brand new HP MediaSmart server in a small business next to mine. Someone tried to set it up and they can not remmeber the Server password they put there. Hint didnt help... So am stucked. Official way is to do reinstall but this server only has 2 HDDs and no cd nor dvd drives. How do I do this ?
Procedyre that I 've done so far is to put a CD into pc and follow the instructions. Server was found and name HPSERVER was givven to it already. I was able to change that name to more appropriate name. The next step was ( I tought ) to assign a password to it but that part was already done and they can not remmeber the old pass...
Pls help and thanks in advance...- Edited by Datahjelp Saturday, June 6, 2009 1:22 PM

Follow the instruction manual provided by HP (or just follow the instructions shown on Using Server Recovery and Factory Reset). You will want to do a Server Recovery.

It should ask you to create a new password during the process. Are you sure it never came up during the Server Recovery? You could try doing another Server Recovery. If it still doesn't ask for a server password, I would suggest you contact HP.

I have a similar issue, but with a acer h340, I lost my password on a mission critical server- my computer was solely backed up by it, the host computer died (a vista 32bit) and I replaced the hardrive, installing win7 64x. now I cant reconect with the whs for lack of a password, Im not sure if I forgot it or the one I thought it was just is malfunctioningis there any way of reseting the server (using server recovery disk?) without deleting the data? ~or simply hacking/ cracking the password...thanksSaturday, January 30, 2010 6:19 AM

Yes. Check the manuals that came with your server (or contact Acer).is there any way of reseting the server (using server recovery disk?) without deleting the data?
