Windows Media Player Music Visualiser Algorithm RRS feed

  • Hello, I was unsure of which forum category to post this in so I have posted it here.

I'm doing a research project about the relationship between auditory and visual perception (in humans). What I would ultimately like to gain would be the knowledge to aid in the development of an algorithm that would take an audio signal and convert it into a “perceptually matched” visualisation.

At the moment, I’m doing some research into the current visualisations that exist today and how they work. I was wondering if anyone knows any information about how the windows media player visualiser algorithm works (or any other commercial music visualiser algorithm), what it is based on, what features of the audio signal are looked at and whether any of this is based on a model of the human perceptual system?

Any help would be much appreciated.
