    Computers, which are built by large manufactures that come with Windows Pre-Installed, come with two (2) Product Keys:

    A) OEM SLP: This key comes pre-installed in Windows, when it comes from the Factory. This key is geared to work with the OEM Bios Flag found only on that Manufacturer's computer hardware. So when Windows was installed using the OEM SLP key (at the factory) Windows looks at the motherboard and sees the proper OEM Bios Flag (for that Manufacturer and that version of Windows) and Self-Activates.

     

    B)  COA SLP: This is the Product key that you see on the sticker on the side, bottom or (for some laptops) in the battery compartment of your computer. It is a valid product key, but should only be used in limited situations (such as when the OEM SLP key stops self-activating for whatever reason). The key must be activated by Phone.

    Your problem is not related to this - it's caused by problems with the file system or permissions.

    click start, then run, then type in "regsvr32 -u %windir%\system32\legitcheckcontrol.dll". Afterwards, go to your c:\windows\system32 directory and delete "legitcheckcontrol.dll".

     

    Afterwards, manually reinstall the latest version of WGA at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=69498.

    Then rebot, and run another MGADiag report.

    1.

    Click Start, and then click Run.

    2.

    In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.

    3.

    At the command prompt, type "regsvr32 softpub.dll", and then press ENTER.

    4.

    Click OK when you receive the message that DllRegisterServer in Softpub.dll succeeded.

    5.

    Repeat steps 1 through 4 for the following files: Wintrust.dll, Initpki.dll, Dssenh.dll, Rsaenh.dll, Gpkcsp.dll, Sccbase.dll, Slbcsp.dll, Mssip32.dll, and Cryptdlg.dll. Remember to put regsvr32 in front of al the dll's in mention. ("regsvr32 wintrust.dll")

    I noticed that the Windows Product Key shown below is different from the product key shown on the Certificate of Authenticity tag on the PC.  Does that mean anything?

    The previous link did fail but I searched support for KB905474 that showed in the filename of the download dialog and found a file to install WGA.  It completed successfully and I'm back in business.  Thanks for all your help!  Don't let 'em grind you down.
