How to access data from a crashed WH Server? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Background:

I use one iTunes folder (stored on my Windows Home Server) for both my Mac and XP systems.  Recently, my WH Server crashed, although the hard drive is still functional.  Rather than purchase new hardware, I'd prefer to just recover the data from the data partition and back up to another external NAS from this point on.  I can see the data and files, but cannot open any of them.  I get a "file locked" or "permissions" error message. Is there a way to recover the data without setting up the server on a new computer system?  I've got all of my iTunes data on this disk that I don't want to lose.

  • I should have further qualified my question above.  My apologies...

I am no longer using a Windows based PC, but only my Mac (which is why I no longer need the WH Server).  I'm guessing that the instructions for data retrieval might be different?
