Can't Install

Question
-
Okay, I've got a Vista Business RC1 install on a pretty standard PC. US version. Upgraded from XP rather than a clean install (just in case that matters). When I try to install the live mesh client, it gives me the standard cannot install / check network settings error. Unfortunately, there is NO LOG generated. I DO have two start menu shortcuts created for Live Mesh, but that's it. No other trace. No Live Mesh directory in Program Files nor in the LocalData\Microsoft directory.
Things I've tried (in addition to the obvious multiple restarts):
- Turned off virus scan
- Turned on and off UAC
- Set IE as default (normally Firefox)
- Checked network settings (no auto configure)
- Installed from both Firefox and IE
- Installed from C drive directly
- /Repari and /Uninstall both report nothing installed
I'm lost. Any help would be much appreciated.Wednesday, July 16, 2008 7:11 PM

Hmm, not quite sure how the thread got marked as answered, but no harm. I did get a REAL answer to this from the very helpful support folks and figured I'd post the solution here so that others might be helped:

Please try the following from an elevated command prompt:
Regsvr32 %windir%\system32\vbscript.dll
Regsvr32 %windir%\system32\scrrun.dll
Regsvr32 %windir%\system32\wshom.ocx
We have a bug on this issue to remove the script engine dependency.

Apparently my script engine either got deregistered or never quite got registered properly during the upgrade from XP to Vista. Anyway, anyone not able to install despite following all of the "sticky" suggestions might find this useful information. Hopefully it'll be "fixed" soon.- Marked as answer by ptyork Saturday, July 19, 2008 8:08 PM

Install as administrator? The UAC fixes affect Vista SP1, I think, but I've only used Home Premium, not Business.Wednesday, July 16, 2008 7:45 PM

Thanks for the reply. Doesn't work as Administrator, either. However, I did find the log file in the temp directory. Oddly, two different log file results depending on whether it installs as a user or an administrator and the one for the user is much larger (i.e., it looks like it gets much further as a user than as an administrator). Anyway, I'll submit these logs in a bug report.
