After uninstalling Norton, after the restart, my computer began saying that my copy of windows was not genuine. I got my CD key from an internship at Techsmith, as a perk from working there. Please help :/

I suggest that you run the Norton Removal Tool to get rid of the residues...
Download the Norton Removal Tool from here https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?lg=english&ct=united+states&docid=20080710133834EN&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home
Close all other programs, then run the tool. When it's complete, reboot the machine whether it asks for it or not.
After the reboot, open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command
NETSH WINSOCK RESET
You'll be advised to reboot - do so.
then post another MGADiag report.

No change
Recreate the Licensing Store
Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt
Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each
net stop sppsvc
(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)
CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
REN tokens.dat tokens.bar
net start sppsvc
slui.exe
After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.
You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.
If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case
Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report

after the slui.exe line, it brings me to a screen that only says that my copy of windows isnt genuine and to go online and resolve. when I click it takes me to the address
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate/DownloadValidationSupport.aspx?displaylang=en&Error=52&OSV=6.1.7601.2.00010100.1.0.001.09.1033&GenuineInfo=8007000D&ls=3
I try downloading the activation technology download it suggests and then it says
"Update installation failed. Error information - 0x80070424"
I tried getting it from both firefox and chrome with not effect. and I did not get any prompt to reenter my key at all. Also, I built my computer and got the key from the internship so there is no COA sticker on the side of my machine.

It has changed things quite a bit :)
You should now be able to activate -
either try re-arming using slmgr.vbs /rearm and internet activation,
or use telephone activation -
telephone activation (operator calls)
Click on the Start button
in the Search box, type
SLUI 4
and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you

Norton software has a bad habit of not properly uninstalling, and leaving registry settings in an unstable state - eventually something falls over and you have to clean up the mess :(
