Office 2007 Validation RRS feed

  • I started receiving a message when opening Office 2007 software.  I purchased it with the laptop at Best Buy.  The software has been running fine until the non genuine message popped up.  I ran the validation test and received a message my software was suspected of being counterfeit.  I don't understand since I have been using it for over 2 years and this just started happening.

    I ran the diagnostic tool. Vista passed, and Office did not.  Here is the diagnostic report on Office.

    At the moment, your Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop has a nongenuine Volume Licensing installation of Office Professional Plus 2007 that was installed with an Invalid Volume Licensing product Key.

    You stated that you purchased Office in a Box Box retail store along with the computer.  Please be aware of that fact that BigBox retailers only sell retail licensed software, or in very limited circumstances, OEM licensed software.  Because the edition of Office you have is a Volume Licensing edition, it could not have been purchased in a Big Box retailer.  What is very possible is that you did indeed buy a retail copy of Office Professional 2007, but somewhere along the line it was replaced with this nongenuine installation of the Volume Licensing Pro Plus 2007.  This could have happened if you ever had the computer repaired and some or all of the software reinstalled, either at a computer shop, or by a friend or relative who is a "computer whiz."

    To correct the nongenuine problem, assuming you did indeed purchase a Genuine retail license for Office Professional 2007 at the Big Box store, you would uninstall the nongenuine Office Professional Plus 2007, restart twice, then do a fresh installation of Office Professional 2007 using the product materials you purchased at the Big Box store.  Retail Office products come on a genuine Microsoft hologrammed installation disc in the rounded corner clear plastic pivoting tray package, with a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) on the outer top, and the Product Key printed on a yello-orange Proof of License label that is affixed to the pivoting tray inside the package.

    After doing this fresh installation, please come back and post a fresh mgadiag report so we can double-check to ensure the problem has been resolved.
