Reporting on Archived Projects RRS feed

  • Question

  • My customer regularly archives completed projects in Project Server 2010. But he still want to see those projects data (basic data like Project Category, Department Name, Year Compeleted etc) in SSRS Reports. Now once the Project gets archived, it gets removed from Reporting Database and Quering directly against Archived database is not supported by Microsoft.

What is the best way to show Archived Projects data in SSRS Reports?

  • Hi Hammad,

In your case, where your customer wants to see archived projects in reports, you should not Archive project using database archival method.

Instead use the following steps to archive the project:

    1. Unpublish all project tasks
    2. Turn off updates in project summary task
    3. setup a security group for users that are not administrators
    4. setup an archive security category
    5. archive the project team site

Alternatively you can also use Archive flag to project page, and filter the project center using flag to hide the Archived projects from users.

Adopting any of the above ways of Archiving can help you achieve your desire results.

    hope this helps.

  • Hi Hammad,

    I agree with Khurram.

The "Archive" database is not really an archive. It is more something like an internal backup tool.

You should not delete a project from the published database if you need it for some kinds of reporting.
