OGA fail RRS feed

  • Question

  • Had Office 2003 and others on this computer, which successfully passed OGA validation in the past.

Now, it says O2003 passes, but OneNote, FrontPage, and Visio do not pass, and have been blocked.

I was trying to get an add-in for OUTLOOK, which passed, but was blocked because the other products mentioned above did not pass.  They have before.  Was advised to delete data.dat, but I have no data.dat in the directory specified to look in.  There are files named data, dat in WGA folders, and OGA folders, but not for just the OFFICE folder, where I was to look, delete, and reactivate office.

The results from the diagnostic tool as follows:

  • Employees can get a licensed copy of Microsoft Office desktop applications, such as Microsoft Office Professional, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Visio Professional, to install and use on a home computer. The Home Use Program benefit enables you to offer employees flexible workspace options that can boost their productivity and enhance their overall work satisfaction.

  • An analysis of your MGA log indicates that while your Microsoft Office Professional Edition is indeed genuine, the separate Office programs consisting of Microsoft OneNote, Microsoft Office Visio Professional, and Microsoft Office FrontPage are not genuine.  The reason is those three programs were installed using a "Volume License" which is usually only sold to business enterprises.  A "Volume License" is not for individual usage outside the business who purchased the license and is non-transferrable to individuals.

To correct the non-genuine licesing issue, you'll need to uninstall those three programs, and then purchase a conventional "Retail Version" of each program and install.

  • That is pretty good, sherlock.

However, I never claimed they were MY licenses.  They were provided by my employer, (a business, with a volume license--LOTS of them) as I work from home.  They passed many, many times, until this week.

So, since they ARE genuine, and licensed copies, albiet from a volume license, they are LEGALLY installed on my computer, for work purposes.

Now, explain to me why, after passing a bazillion times, they fail this time?  And why do I not have a regular Office data.dat file, as Michelle, I believe it was, suggested should be there.

  • Apparently, your employer is mis-using the Volume License agreement that had agreed to.  Volume Licensing should not be used outside a business.  You'll need to discuss this matter with your in-house representative responsible for Microsoft licensing compliance.
