Problem installing on Macbook with 10.5.6 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I cannot install the Live Mesh client on my Macbook. After launching the software, after a few minutes I get a message that Live Mesh has unexpectedly quit. I tried deleting the Live Mesh and Live ID folders from Application Support, and deleting the preferences files, but this did not have any effect.

Yesterday, I had to rebuild the laptop for other reasons, and I tried installing with a fresh OS, but I get the same result. I never get a login-in screen.  I have it loaded on two other Macs (Macbook Pro and iMac), but cannot get it to load without crashing on this Mac.

I have submitted a Bug and Live Mesh Log:

    Hi Tim,

This sounds like the same as the issue I am running into - https://connect.microsoft.com/LiveMesh/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=381078&wa=wsignin1.0 which was, at some point between Friday and today marked "Resolved - Wont Fix". My original forum post is here.

I'm somewhat disappointed in the Live Mesh team that this issue was closed (after months! I've been waiting for a comment since 11/10/2008) without me ever getting any type of feedback (request for further information, or an explanation as to the "no fix").

Could someone from the team either:

    1. comment on the closure
    2. reopen the bug for examination as this now seems to be affecting more than one person

Note: My harddrive crashed, was replaced, after which I installed 10.5 and then the latest Live Mesh (so it was the first bit of software on the OS), which is the current version,  and still got this issue.

    Cheers,

    Oren

    Hi Oren,

From the original set of logs that you submitted our developers determined that this seemed to be a wider OS or hardware problem, not an issue with Live Mesh, and they have suggested that you try repairing the hard drive and/or doing a clean install of the OS.

I see from your forum post (which was how I became aware of this bug) that you've recently replaced the hard drive and tried a new install - and are still encountering this problem.  In order to avoid confusion, please go ahead and open a new bug, and submit a fresh set of logs.

I am terribly sorry that none of this was communicated to you.  This particular bug was closed last Friday (1/30/09) once the investigation was complete.  As you might imagine, we have a large number of customer-submitted bugs and lack the staff to communicate the reason for a bug's closure to the customer in every case.  Nevertheless, I certainly think that you have a right to request an update when this happens - particularly when you appear to still be experiencing the issue.  Should this happen again in the future, do not hesitate to send us a comment via Connect, or to post to the forums (as you did in this case).  We are more than happy to let you know why your bug was marked as resolved.

Again, you have my apologies for the confusing way in which this bug was closed without any communication to you.  And, as always, we truly appreciate all the time and energy you have been putting into helping us test Live Mesh, as well as actively participating on the forums.

    Thank you,

    Ben.

    Hi Tim,

Thank you for submitting your bug.  We've been seeing a number of reports lately of similar behavior with the Live Mesh for Mac software, and our Mac developers will look into this as soon as possible.  I'm keeping an eye on this one for you, and I will let you know if I learn anything - though you should also feel free to post additional information and/or ask for a status update at any time.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

  • Hello.

I agree - exactly the same issue on my Macbook Pro, despite deleting both folders from within Application Support and the plist file. Since others do not seem to be experiencing the problem, I'm assuming that it's some kind of conflict with third-party software I have running.

One suggestion: Windows Live Sync works beautifully across my MBP and PC - it hasn't thrown a spanner once. OK, you lose access to the actual files online, but that isn't a problem for me. Give it a try (or wait until MS merges the two services...).
