H.E.L.P.?? All E mails from my provider - non hotmail - e mail are missing after error message/sending/receiving messages in Windows Live Mail 2011 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have no idea if I'm using the right forum -

    sorry

I'm using Live mail 2011 and have several e mail accounts associated - loaded? - so they all come up at once.

one e mail is my primary through Charter

I was waiting patiently for an e mail to come through so I could print it and hit send/receive - it kept trying to load but would not progress more than a quarter of the way - I recived the "do you want to wait for a response or quit" message - I chose to wait. several times

I gave up and quit - in the meantime there was (I believe AVG )forced reboot - you know, the kind that says reboot or you can postpone?) I had been postponing most of the day and frustrated I chose to close everything and re boot.

When I logged back in ALL of my  email from my Charter account was missing!

I went to Charter.net and tried to see if it was still on their server - it was not

I called them - they said I need to call Microsoft because the error I received below was an error from Microsoft's side - and that Microsoft deleted all of my e mails when the "header" download for the "drafts" folder did not complete.

    ______________________________________________________________________

Unable to send or receive messages for the Charter (my e mail) account. Header download for the “drafts” folder did not complete. Could not download new messages from the IMAP server.

Server Response: The server did not respond to this IMAP command before the connection was terminated.

    Server: IMAP.charter.net

Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0F

    Protocol: IMAP

    Port: 143

    Secure (SSL) No

    __________________________________________________________________________________

Now when I try to connect I can get mail from all my other accounts - I can see new mails that have loaded since 3am this morning but there is NOTHING before 7/17 there at al, and I get the following error when it trys to load

the server did not respond to this IMAP command before the connection was terminated - is the message I get now when I try to open Live Mail.

I really need those e mails and don't know how to get them back.

    Please, can anyone help?

  • Thanks, I thought maybe the firewall was the problem so I removed all security and tried again but it doesn't work. how would my POP3 settings have been changed if I didn't do it myself?

or if you suspect malware I'd try them over here.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your post.

According to my research, there are 2 possible causes on why you've encountered this error message:

    • Incorrect POP3 settings (usually the SSL option for SMTP) - check with your provider if it is required or not.
    • Firewall is blocking the ports (usually port 25) - Windows Firewall generally allows this port through, unless specifically told not to do so.

As an initial troubleshooting, I suggest that you reconfigure your account by following the steps provided below on how to remove and re-add again the account.

How do I add an account to Windows Live Mail?

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/14054/windows-live-mail-add-account

For firewall issue, you can try to disable the security software /firewall to isolate the cause of this issue.

Furthermore, I suggest to contact Windows Live Mail  Forum for further help:
