Push Notification strategies RRS feed

  • Question

  • I can't find a great forum to post this in so forgive me for posting this in here if its not appropriate. I was wondering if anyone could share some could push notification strategies - by that I mean, how to set up a server to cope with vast amounts of push requests.

In my case I am using PHP but I imagine the language is not important. Recently I've been getting a lot of error 406 messages which, according to the docs, means

406 Not Acceptable The cloud service exceeded its throttle limit. Log the details of your request. Reduce the rate at which you are sending notifications.

Now I need to send hundreds, likely thousands of push notifications simultaneously as my app is to notify people of an goal being scored in a 90 minute soccer match. I was not aware there were any limits. What are they and how should I best stagger my notifications to make sure no users are being dropped.
