WHS Backup - how does it deal with Registry not being written until reboot / shutdown ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I recently did a backup and restore of a PC using WHS.  However, when I started using the restored version, I noticed that a few things were slightly "off".

Then, it hit me: the registry is only written when Windows exists, and I'd made changes which would only be reflected in the Registry, but hadn't rebooted prior to making the backup.

Now, it was an easy fix for me -- but what if I'd just got done installing a new program (or several), did the backup, and then needed to do the restore immediately?  I'd be stuck without any of the registry changes I'd need, and I think most people wouldn't even realize what the issue was.

    Thoughts ?
