    If you've been thinking about picking up one of the new HP MediaSmart Home Servers for your WHS system, I managed to pick up a bit of extra information yesterday regarding specs and pricing.... 


    There will be 500Gb and 1Tb variants, with the following US pricing:

  • If it is £299 for a 500GB server it sounds pretty good.


    Rolling your own with £85 for WHS software, £65 for a 500GB disc leaves about £150 for CPU, ram, mainboard, psu & case. I think I'd be hard pushed to put together these for £150 and the resultant system wouldn't have hot swap drives or be as compact as he HP offering.

  • Well, £299 is a literal conversion of the US system cost (for guidance). I'd be surprised if HP didn't add a bit on for us UK users....
