FixIt Center pops to save the ResultReport.xml file RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am having a problem with Fix It Center.  When I run a diagnostic, if I click to see the reports, the window says it can't display the web page and it comes back with a popup to Open or Save the ResultReport.xml file.  If I click  open, it opens a Notepad with all the XML code altogether.   It seems the FixIt Center did not install its XML viewer during the install. Any ideas how to fix this?

I am running it on Vista 32bit SP1.

    Thanks.

  • Dear Customer,

Thank you for your interest in Microsoft Fix it Center (beta).

The problem you encountered appears to be a computer configuration issue. To better understand the underlying problem, I'd like to ask you to run a couple of commands to query the computer's configuration. Would you please follow the following steps and copy the command outputs to this thread?

    1. Launch a command window by hitting the Start-R key, typing in "cmd.exe" and then hitting Enter.

    2. In the command window, type the following line and then hit Enter.

    reg query HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.Xml /s

    3. In the command window, type the following line and then hit Enter.

    reg query HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.Xml /s

    4. When you are done with copying the outputs to this thread, you may close the command window.

  • @Joel

Thank you for providing the requested information. Could you please try the following to see if it resolves the problem?

    1. Copy the following 5 lines (including a blank line in between) and paste them into a file named "fix_xml_in_browser.reg" on your Desktop, using an text editor such as Notepad.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.xml]
    @="xmlfile"
    "Content Type"="text/xml"

    2. Double click on the file on your Desktop. A "Registry Editor" dialog box will pop up asking if you want to add the information to the registry. Answer "Yes".

    3. Reboot your computer.

    4. Launch the Fix it Center application again.

  • Hi Daniel,

I tried your solution and still same issue.  It pops Notepad instead of the formatted report.
