Linking Project from a Master Project RRS feed

  • Question

  • I wish to link and maintain other project as read only and insert them into this Master project.

Would the above approach result in loosing any data ?

We refer unique id field in all the plans. What happens to the unique ids in the sub projects ?

If a sub project is updated separately , when and how would the data get reflected in the master project.

  • Hi Charul

Master Projects are just placeholders for inserted sub projects, and since you mentioned that it would be there as Read only, no data loss will be there since within master project you won't be able to save any changes to sub project

The Unique ID in master plan would differ from actually in Sub Projects, as Unique ID field is specific to Project, and master plan in itself is a project, but Task GUID remains the same, so may be as an alternative you might wanna look at that

As Barbara already said, if the sub projects are updated separately  ( which in any case you will need to do as you would be inserting subprojects in master plan as read only) and proper save >> publish is done, on next reload of master plan the values will reflect, and in pwa client on a refresh it would reflect the appropriate values

Just curios for what purpose youa re using Unique ID ? perhaps there might be a better solution for handling the same

    Hope this helps

  • Hi,

if you follow this approach, you will not be able to update your sub project, but seems that is what you want to.
If a sub project is updated separately, this will only be refelected in Project client when you open your master project and in PWA after publishing.

I am not sure about your concerns regarding UIDs. Project Server does handle them automatically. What is your specific question?
