wireless printer server problems RRS feed

  • Question

  •

I have a linksys wpsm54g wireless print server...when i turn off the firewall I can print.  When I turn on the fire wall i cannot connect to server and print.    Talked to linksys and they said create static ip adress and configure the firewall.   How do I do this?  does not seem very obvious anywhere where i can allow an ip adress through the fire wall.   Or does anyone have any other ideas on how I can get thus problem solved

    thanks for any help

  • Are you using the Beta 2.0 of OneCare or the released version, 1.6?

There is no option to allow an IP address in the OneCare firewall. I would open OneCare and click on change settings, then the firewall tab and advanced button. Enable file and printer sharing. If this does not work, contact OneCare support for help.

    Support for 2.0 beta:

http://help.live.com/help.aspx?project=onecarev2 -use the "Get More Help" link in the lower right of the page to contact support via email.

Support for v1.6 is via the information here - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1183038&SiteID=2

  • OneCare does not provide the ability to trust a specific IP address. You will need to find out from Linksys support what ports they need open to communicate and open those ports up in the firewall via OneCare UI>Change Settings>Firewall>Advanced>Ports & Protocols tab

  • I also have this problem with 2.0, if I turn off the firewall I can print, if it is on I can not, I even added all the files in the Linksys print server program file and it still will not print with the firewall on, this laptop has vista installed, all my others have XP and they work fine, any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Since the XP computers can print to the print server, it would appear that something about the firewall settings on the Vista machine and the XP machines is different. If you aren't able to identify that readily, please contact support -

How to reach support (FAQ) - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2421771&SiteID=2 It could be that Vista itself has a difference that is causing the problem.
