70-642 (Network Infrastructure) Exam experience? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm preparing to take my first Microsoft certification next month, 70-642  (and eventually go up to MCITP: Server Administrator in the future)

For anyone who has taken this exam... what can I expect? For example.. is it all multiple choice?  Or are their lab simulations as well?

I'm preparing by following the Microsoft "Self Paced Training Kit 70-642" book, any feedback on this book? Is it lacking in any area?

    Thanks

  • If you used the MS press book, and used the exam questions that were on the CD, then you'll have a good idea of what type of questions to anticipate.

  • I agree with Charles. You can also find a lot of tips from the exam's MS Learning page:

    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/exam.aspx?ID=70-642#tab1

The practice tests there should give you a feel of how the exam questions will be like.

  • I took 70-648 3 days ago (it consists partly of 70-642)
There where no simulations but I did have 2 questions where I had to put 4 actions in the correct order of execution

If you come well prepared the exam isn't too hard (I scored 945/1000)

    good luck!

  • Hi Vnat,

You shouldn't worry too much about the format of the questions, as, if you know your stuff, you will pass, and if you don't, you won't. As Charles and Salvador have already said, the MS Press book is an excellent guide. I personally have never failed an exam that I have achieved a passing mark on multiple occassions in the practice tests included with the books. This includes 70-642.

  • Thanks, I just started reading the book so not at the point of doing practice tests yet. I'm not so much asking about what type of questions/material is on the exam,  but the way the test is given (lab/simulations, or all multiple-choice).

  • Does anyone recall if the ProMetric test has a "virtual calculator" or do we have to do math calculations by hand on a scratch pad?
