Backup clients to WHS in a SBS2003 network using ISA2004 proxy RRS feed

  • Question

  • Our SBS2003 network is using ISA 2004 as a proxy server, and it appears that the proxy server (or some firewall rules) are preventing my clients from backing up to our new Home Server.  My IE settings are as follows:

Use a proxy server... - Checked
    Address: sbs Port: 8080
Bypass proxy server for local addresses - Unchecked

In order to install the connector, I had to clear the "Use a proxy server..." checkbox, but I obviously can't run like that normally.  If I re-enable the proxy settings on the client, I can access the Home Server Console but WHS just hangs when I go to back up my machine.

How do I get the SBS/ISA proxy to play nicely with WHS?

  • How's Life?

We have four whs installed into four sbs2k3 w/isa2k4 w/proxy clients and have not run across your issue.

Do you have rules that have been created for special needs?

Have you created a dns entry for the whs?

Have you static ip'd whs with an ip greater then sbs?

  • Weird - I was able to back up an XP client, and my SBS2003 box, but my Win7 client still won't back up.
    Why is that?
