Issue: Microsoft Store shows owned applications that I've never purchased nor installed from my Microsoft Account (Candy Crush Saga and Twitter) RRS feed

  • Question

  • While I was checking my Microsoft Store account yesterday, I saw that under the "Downloads and updates" -> "All owned" tab there are two apps that I have never installed nor purchased on my computer or any other device linked to my Microsoft Account. I did not clicked on anything to make them listed as "owned". I have contacted Microsoft support for this issue, a full system reset has been performed, also one of the agents downloaded the ISO file and performed an in-place repair, tested with a different user account, reset the Store with some PowerShell commands, uninstalled and reinstalled the Store app again, however after performing all those troubleshooting steps the issue still persists.

The message says that both applications (Candy Crush Saga and Twitter) were "Purchased moments ago", but I have never purchase these apps.

I would like to report this issue or if there is another person who has experienced the issue and resolve it, please share any comments.

Special thanks to Anielka S. (I asked for her full name, but she didn't answered what S. stands for) from Microsoft support team who guided me on all those steps described above I and she performed while trying to solve this issue for a few hours.

Also, I found this Reddit post with the same issue, so I guess I'm not alone on this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/90rk7s/candy_crush_saga_and_a_bunch_of_other_apps/

I'm posting this issue here because first I tried to post it with Windows 10's Feedback Hub app, but as soon as I login with my Microsoft account it shows "Something went wrong" full screen error message and I can't make it go away to submit an issue, the second option I tried was to go to https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/newthread?threadtype=Questions and leave a question there, but when I fill all the required fields and click "Submit" button it grays out and nothing happens, I tried on both Chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers from my Windows 10 laptop, from my Android phone and from my Xbox One Edge browser, but all these devices couldn't post a question there, so I started looking maybe there was a proper bug tracker for UWP apps like Windows Store, I found this news from almost 2 years ago that Microsoft planned to open a public bug tracker for UWP apps but it never happened and the http://developer.microsoft.com/windows/platform link is still broken up to this day, so the last open issue tracker I knew was this one, sorry if this issue is not really belong here, but as you can see I tried all the other options and they didn't worked.

  • Hi Procedural,

For this issue, it's a better way to post it on feedback hub. Since you failed to post it on feedback hub, I helped you to post this issue on the feedback with the same title as this issue tittle. You could check it in your feedback hub app.

  • Hi Daisy,

I helped you to post this issue on the feedback with the same title as this issue tittle.

Thank you very much for this! However,

You could check it in your feedback hub app.

I can't due to the Feedback Hub issue I described above. Could you copy and paste the body of the first post from here to there or post there a link to here?

    Thanks!

  • An update from November 15, 2018:

They are shown as "purchased" still, but now Microsoft Store lies that I purchased Candy Crush Soda and Twitter apps two days ago. I did not. All I did in the last 2 days was mostly working in Linux (because I find Windows 10 the most unproductive OS since Windows 7) with occasional reboots to Windows 10 for light web browsing, and I think I opened Microsoft Store app one time to check if these two apps are still listed as "purchased" on my account. Please give me the way to remove these applications I never purchased nor installed on any of my machines from any of my accounts.

    Thanks.

  • Also, notice that Windows Store people definitely did something to fix "Purchased moments ago" message I saw every day before November 13, 2018, but they did not bothered to make these two apps actually go away from my account since I never purchased them.

And not for all accounts, I guess? Daniel Ludwig noticed having them "purchased" on his Microsoft Account too:

  • Now they're back to "Purchased moments ago".

  • But Feedback Hub now works, yay! I didn't do anything, so I guess it was fixed by an update.
