  First, make sure it didn't accept the key at first- sign in to http://billing.microsoft.com/ and see if your OneCare subscription is listed.
  
  If not, you'll need to contact support as a trial user and explain your situation - see the FAQ at http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2421771&SiteID=2
  
  If it is, check your system time and date are accurate and note the subscription status takes up to 24 hours to update in OneCare.
