Personalized List of 'Forums' RRS feed

  • Question

  • I would like the ablility to select specific forums for my 'personalized' landing page. I would rather NOT have to dig through the entire list of all forums every time I come to use the Forums. Perhaps I want all (or some) of the SQL Forums, the .NET Data Forum, the Moderator and Reporting Forums, etc.

Perhaps a 'cookie' -or in my profile...

Creative minds should be intrigued with the possibilities...

  • Hi Arnie,

We've got the ability coming in our next release (in a couple weeks) to show "Categories" of your choice. From the home forums page you can click on a single category (".Net" category in my example) and get a URL similar to

    http://forums.expression.microsoft.com/en-us/ftag/.NET/forums

You can then add more categories to display by separating them by commas. So if you were only interested in ".NET", "Visual Studio" and "SQL" categories the URL would look like:

    http://forums.expression.microsoft.com/en-us/ftag/.net,visualstudio,sql/forums

This won't give you exactly what you want, but once some of our sites like MSDN gets loaded it'll have over 100 forums in many categories and you can at least just bookmark the categories you're interested in.

    Hope this is helpful.

  • Well...

At least it will be a 'start' toward greater usefulness.
It seems for me that managing user state or 'preferred configuration' should be considered.

  • I agree Arnie,

I think we can do a lot here with managing and storing user state. I suspect it'll take us a few releases before we can really focus on this since our top priority over the next couple of months will be migrating over MSDN and TechNet forums which requires a few new features.

But keep the suggestions coming and so we can figure out what would be the best user experience here going forward.
