Gtp disk or not RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have created a large array to use with Home server
I am using 8 X 750 gig drives in a raid 5 so I have almost 5 tb of storage
I go to disk manager and see only 2 tb so I enable gtp disk and I get the full amount of storage then on my windows home server console I go to Server Storage
I see the drive and add to storage Hard Drive but I only get 2 tb of storage?

I go back to Disk Manager and see the array is not GTP disk any more and only have 2 tb of storage

How can I get the full use of the array?
Should I just break the array up into JOB and let WHS manage the disks?
I was planning on making a much larger array with 2 tb disks

  • Windows Home Server does not support GUID Partition Table disks. When you add any "disk" (including a large volume on a RAID array) to your storage pool, it is formatted with the MBR style or partition table.

Since RAID is an unsupported scenario anyway, the recommended configuraiton would be to break your array and give each of the disks to Windows Home Server individually.

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
