Installing Genuine MS Office 2007 Enterprise RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi wondering if anybody can help.. I have a copy of office 2007 enterprise installed on my computer and I now know that this is not a genuine copy, I have just been out and purchased a genuine copy of office 2007 enterprise, I have the disc and the product key as you would expect with a genuine version.

My question is how should I go about installing it, do I need to uninstall the non genuine version then install the genuine version? If I do this will I lose all my settings and emails etc.

Or can I just enter the product key into the none genuine version to make it genuine?

What is the best way to go about this?

Thanks in advance for any help I have searched the forums but can’t find an answer to this particular proble.

  • Hello Nightfreight,

Since both the installed but nongenuine Office Enterprise 2007, and the copy of Office Enterprise 2007 purchased thru the academic site you mentioned are the same version and edition of Office, you should be able to take advantage of the Product Key changing procedure rather than spend the time doing a full uninstallation then reinstallation.

The details for changing Office product keys are in this MS KB:  http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/895456

After changing the product key, restart the computer, then open an Office program such as Word 2007.  You should then see the Activation Wizard.  Use the Wizard to activate normally.

Restart once more, then visit www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on the Validate Office button, and your Office should validate normally.

Finally, open up Word and other Office programs once more to ensure that you no longer see nongenuine notices.

Post back to let us know how you did! :-)

  • Hello Nightfreight,

In order to receive the best support, we request all users initially download and run the Genuine Diagnostics tool at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012. Click the "Continue" button, click the "Copy" button, then paste the report into your post.

Posting the report will confirm details about the current installation that may impact upon what your next step should be.

You mentioned, "I have just been out and purchased a genuine copy of office 2007 enterprise, I have the disc and the product key as you would expect with a genuine version."

This is a very odd situation as Office Enterprise 2007 is normally a volume licensing-only edition of Office that should not be generally available thru normal retail sales channels.  If you are a typical consumer, and if you went to a store and bought a copy of Office Enterprise 2007, or ordered a copy online, it's very likely that you inadvertently purchased a nongenuine copy of Office Enterprise 2007.

Could you provide more detail about the purchase and the materials you purchased?
