Onecare writing to drive f: instead of c: RRS feed

  • Question

  • I get a new service pack folder every day  on drive f: instead of c:
    Folders are 7725e765....  & e7b17a06.........

I'm ready to go back to Symantec. When I installed Onecare it removed Symantec then crashed causing me to reghost the drive. That should have been a sign from God.

  • I do not believe that the folder you are referring to is from OneCare. The folder is likely being placed there by Windows Update. What is the full path for the folder on the F:\ drive and what is the operating system you are using?

As for the crash when Norton was removed, I'm sorry to read that you encountered that, but the Norton suite would have needed to be removed before OneCare was installed - manually or letting OneCare do it. Not removing it would have caused other issues, including perhaps crashes.

  • XP home is the os. No other os's.

    I have a 300 GB drive that I made into c: d: e: and x: with Partition Magic.

You're right it is updates that are being installed. It's probably just coincidence this started at the same time as Live was installed. Anyway, they make their own folder on e:
They also install Spuninst to remove them and it works.

Equally troubling is  that  restore no longer works. I get an error  that  drives were  excluded.

Software Distribution Service created a restore point today. That's interesting since I have the security center set to alert me but not to download anything.

DOS is looking better all the time. Thanks for your help!

  • BTW e: is correct. Originally I said f: by mistake.
