  • Question

  • I want to uninstall Live One Care because my subscription ran out. Instead of renewing, I bought another copy from Staples because it was only $19.99 instead of $39.99. If I run the setup, it says that I have to uninstall my current copy. When I do, it disables my CD Rom drive and I can't load. I have to do a system restore to get my CD Rom back. I have no way of getting Live One Care off of my computer. I just want to get rid of it all and go buy Nortons. It works well while it is running, but it really isn't worth all the hassles after each subscription runs out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  • You do not need to uninstall/reinstall. You simply need to renew with the retail key.

Go to http://billing.microsoft.com and sign in with your subscription LiveID. (Open OneCare and click help/about to view the subscription LiveID)

Select the OneCare subscription and click on the renew link.

Choose the option to renew with a prepaid PIN or token which is the retail product key.

Enter the 25 character key and proceed.

It can take up to 24 hours for the subscription status to be updated in OneCare.

If you still want to remove OneCare, to restore the CD drives to Explorer after the uninstall, use Doug Knox's script file: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_cd_dvd_fix.htm
