    We are trying to purchase a genuine windows XP pro disc online,is this possible please?.

    After purchase will it overide Vista home basic.

    With the exception of special participation in academic-only licenses downloaded from a Microsoft website, as far as I know there is NO retailer on the internet that is authorized by Microsoft to sell you a Genuine downloadable copy of any edition of XP.  AFAIK even Microsoft itself does not sell XP in a downloadable format on its own website.  (It does sell Vista in downloadable format.)
