Year old Lenovo is now giving "This copy of Windows is not genuine." RRS feed

  • Question

  • Bought this pc brand new from Lenovo and activated it about a year ago.  It was all preinstalled with Windows 7 Professional.  I contacted Lenovo but they sent disks that will wipe everything and I will have to start all over.  This is a business pc with tons of info and multiple programs on it.  I ran the MS Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool and have pasted the results in the body of this message.  I'm really hoping I don't have to wipe everything and start fresh.  Lenovo told me they just don't keep copies or records of all of their licensing and nothing came with the pc that shows the Windows 7 Pro licensing info.

  • For some reason the system is having trouble reading the SLIC table in the BIOS to self activate.  Try entering the Product Key listed on the COA Sticker.  The COA Sticker may be located in the battery compartment underneath the battery.

  • YOu appear to have reinstalled using retail media, and the OEM's Product Key - as Kamin says,

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment),  using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.

You may need to activate by phone.
