running apps in winxp pro

when a friend tries to run any app in xp pro he gets the follwoing error
entry point not found location\0

at this point all setup apps will stop intheiri tracks and cannot run any ideas
this machien was NOt an upgrade from any other version of windows
we can all laearn together to be better than we are
