Create a Service Contract from an Opportunity RRS feed

    We use CRM to manage opportunities. When an Opportunity is won we create a contract to provide services for a pre-determined amount of time.

    Is there an easier way to create or (if not) link a service contract to an opportunity?

  • If your Opportunities are linked to your Accounts then linking the Contract to the Account makes sense.  You could create a workflow that runs on Status change of the Oppportunity and creates a Contract when the Opportunity is won.  You can associate the Contract with the Opportunity Customer (Account).  You will still need to create Contract lines manually if you use Contract Lines.

    Another option is to create a 1:N relationship between Opportunities and Contracts and using the workflow idea above, create the Contract and associate it directly with the Opportunity.  You'll still need to create the Contract lines manually if you use those. 

    To do everything above and create the Contract Lines, you'll need a plug-in.  You can have a look at the Developers Center on MSDN for more information on how to create plug-ins.

    You can create a 1:N Relationship within Opportunity with Contracts and start using the same. Hope it serves your purpose. Please do let me know in either case.
