Move the SQl express to remote SQL standard 2005 RRS feed

  • Question

  •

I am running OCS 2007 standard edition.  I notice with the standard edition, it automatically install SQL express 2005 locally.  Are there any issues moving the SQL express DB to a remote SQL 2005 Standard?  Are there any documents on how to do this?

    Thanks in advance.

  • You'd need to deploy a seperate Enterprise Front-End server with a new database on that SQL backend, and then move all the users from the Standard server to the Enterprise pool.  You can't just forklift the database and still use a Standard Consolidated Front-End server.

I did not purchase the OCS enterprise edition so you telling me if I have a remote SQL standard edition, I can not redirect the Standard Consolidated Front End server?

  • Correct.  The Standard Edition Stand-Alone Front-End server only works with the default local instance of SQL Server Express.
