Emailing to a Custom Entity RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am currently working on MS Dynamics CRM 4.0 and I'm trying to send emails to a custom entity triggered by workflow. This email would need to target specific people depending on conditions of the trigger. Though I know that this is not a feature that is included in the program at the moment, I have found this page:

    http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/crmdevelopment/thread/634aa49d-d8fc-4a8c-b3af-6c00b72f8df9

Is there an easier solution to this problem? If not, does anybody have any detailed instructions as to how to implement the above solution?

This is a rather important issue as it is a major factor for the target audience of this implementation.

    Regards,

  • What Rhett explained is that you can do this with javascript when you want to send an email from the custom entity form...

From a workflow point of view, it is a bit different, you will need to develop a custom workflow activity that will send the mail to an email adresse (rather than a contact, account or lead).

  • You can set Email settings under System Setttings on the EMail Tab. Set the option for 'All messages with unresolved email recipients to be sent' to Yes. Then you can place an email address in the To and the regarding can be set to the custom entity. You will need to retrieve the email address from the custom entity from within the onload of the email activity as you cannot map to attributes between activities and other entitites. the regarding will automatically be filled by default with your custom entity, you just need to fill the To using some AJAX.

  • So if I were to implement this in a workflow, the ONLOAD event would occur? also, Would it be possible to give me an example of the AJAX i can use to do this population of the "To"?

  • Hmmm I see. I guess it would probably be easier to listen to the other forums and move my custom attributes to the contacts then. I was just hoping to avoid having 130 unused attributes which i cannot delete.
