Memory of a WHS -- 2G or 4G? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I'm wondering if 4G memory will make a big difference than 2G in a WHS? I know for the memory it's the more the better, but is 2G (DDR2 800) enough? I'll have about 4-5 computers attached to my WHS and I'm planning to put 3TB harddrive on it. Thanks a lot!

  • It really depends on how you plan to use your server. If you only use the built-in functionality, then probably you would find 512 MB (the minimum memory specification) adequate. If you plan to install a lot of additional software, and to use it to perform many functions that Microsoft didn't build in (and which are all unsupported) then you'll need more. Probbly, though 2GB will be fine for just about anything you'll be doing with it.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
