  • If you reinstall OneCare, it will always be in trial mode until you activate it by using the LiveID for your active subscription, as Wenske stated.

If you have an active subscription, which is what was created when you activated on the first computer, you need to use the same LiveID on the subsequent activations. If you are arriving at a screen to purchase or provide a token, you are likely not using the same LiveID as the subscription ID.

If you don't recall the LiveID you used for your subscription, you will need to contact support who can provide that information to you using your Key and/or contact information.

How to reach support (FAQ) - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2421771&SiteID=2

Alternatively, sign in at http://billing.microsoft.com with email addresses that you have set up as LiveIDs and one will show your subscription listed - that would the LiveID to use to activate with.

If the activation dialog already contains a LiveID from a prior attempt or one used in trial mode, but this is not the one you need to activate with to associate it with your subscription, see this post for how to reset this - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2776450&SiteID=2

  • I've had similar problems and have tried your options.  I'm still unable to get One Care Activated again.  I've given up and purchased software from another company.  It wasn't worth the aggrevation this has caused over the past few weeks.  I've never had a problem activating Norton or McAfee, even after formatting my hard-drive.

If you tried *all* of the options presented above and had an active subscription, you would have been able to activate your copy of OneCare. However, I agree that the process is more complicated and fraught with problems than it should be compared to competitors.

  • To reinstall One Care first run the install cleanup tool - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=828910&SiteID=2 then go to the One Care installation page - http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/install/addcomputerinstall.htm sign in using the Live ID and password associated with your account. Follow the instructions for downloading and activating One Care.

If you have already installed the One care trial, open One Care, select "Subscribe", and when prompted for a Live ID enter the Live ID and password associated with your One care subscription. Your subscription status wil be recognized and One Care will activate.
