Advice on Individual Path to Database Management/Development (studying for) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I graduated in 2004 with a BS in Computer Information Systems but then decided to go with the business/finance/accounting route (earned my MBA). I would like to get (back) into technology, specifically database development/management. I have done some research and found some interesting certifications (MCITF, MCDBA and MCSD) related to my interest, but it has been 8 years since I last wrote any program (and it was in an academic setting) or even played with a language (C++ and VB). Any advice on where I should start to refresh my memory? I was thinking about hitting some books on programming languages (including SQL and T-SQL), then reading some more fundamental dabatase base development and management material, before actually studying specifically for the tests. Am I on the right track?

Btw, I also know that experience is key, but as you all know, you cannot get a real opportunity w/o certifications/education.
