VLK blocked? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently purchased an older laptop on ebay.  The laptop came with XP installed.  I started getting those annoying messages about my invalid version of XP.  I've tried to type in the key from the bottom of the laptop but, the server keeps timing out on me.  When I try to find that page again, I'm redirected to a page where they want me to buy a new copy of XP.

What should I do?  I really don't want to pay $149 for a copy of XP  for and old laptop (that came with it) when I have 2 other pc's using XP already.

    Frustrating.

  • Hi Geoff_NJ,

If the Product Key that was used to install your Windows XP is a Blocked VLK and you want to use the Product Key from the sticker on the bottom of your laptop, you will need to use the Product Key Update Tool. Go to www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/pkuinstructions.aspx, select XP and you will be provided with step by step instructions to replace the Product Key.

    Thank you,
