Can't get acess to control panel recieving prompt saying may be a Victim of software Counterfeiting RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just bought my laptop this winter (2008) from Best Buy which was included with Windows Vista included and pre installed. As of a week ago I keep getting the prompt saying Possible Victim of software counterfeiting. I do not have access to my control panel and my printer is not working either.
I went to the command prompt and selected "run as the administrator" and typed: net start slsvc.

     It then said...

"A system error has occurred. System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied."

A few days after this problem started,  my Antivirus and AntiSpyware expired. I did download a free version of McAfee anti virus from my college's website. It was McAfee 8.7i. said it was compatible with Vista.

I ran a full scan and it didn't find anything.

What should I do? Is there anyone I can call? I can't find a number anywhere.
